Social Dance Program:
Again this year, we’re striving to make the social dance portion of Worlds the most outstanding dance opportunity you’ll find anywhere. We no longer wait until competition is finished to start social dancing! Instead, we’ll start no later than 9:00 pm each night of Worlds. We’ve got two ballrooms dedicated nightly to social dancing:
Swing & Country Room:
In the Swing & Country (Yucatan) Ballroom, we’ll begin at 9:00 pm and play a mix of country music and swing music (real swing…not “country swing”). The mix will be mostly country during the earlier hours, but as the night gets late there will be a gradual change to mostly swing. Naturally our outstanding deejays (both swing and country) will monitor the crowd and play whatever the dancers want. You’re going to love the variety of music and dances, and you’ll also love having the opportunity to dance with people from all over the world.
Line Dance Room:
In the Line Dance (Monterrey) Ballroom, we’ll begin at 9:00 pm each night and play a mix of old and new line dances. Our dedicated line dance deejays will also play your requests until the wee hours each night.
There are two nights of social dancing that will receive special emphasis and more detailed planning - the New Year’s Eve Party and the “Farewell” party.
The New Year’s Eve Party
The New Year’s Eve Party will occur in the competition ballroom (Fiesta) and the Line Dance ballroom. We’ve got several surprises in mind and this will be the night to cut loose. No activities will be scheduled to conflict with the party. We’re still putting plans in place, but be ready to party until late. There will be at least one or two “no host” bars available for purchasing beverages.
On Saturday night, just after our show and Master’s competition is over, we’ll meet for a final night of socializing and social dancing. Our party will again be held in both the Fiesta and the Monterrey ballrooms. This is the “stress free” night that we all look forward to and we’ll again have snacks and a “no host” bar to embellish the experience.
No, it’s not a contradiction in terms. Lots of social dancers enjoy testing their lead and follow skills in a competition format that is less formal than our UCWDC contests. For our social competitors, we’re offering informal Jack & Jill contests in two step and west coast swing. A Jack & Jill contest is one in which male participants of a given skill level are paired randomly with female participants of the same skill level. The couples then compete against each other and are judged by a panel of knowledgeable dance professionals. The winners receive cash and/or other types of prizes.
Two Step Jack & Jill
On Thursday night, at approximately 10:30 pm, we’ll hold our two step contest in the Fiesta Ballroom. Worlds is a Country Two Step Tour (CTST) member event which means any points earned at Worlds counts toward graduation within the CTST. You may sign up to participate in advance or when you arrive at Worlds. You don’t have to be a member of CTST to participate. Registration will close about two hours before the contest start time.

West Coast Swing Jack & Jill
On Friday night of Worlds, at approximately 10:30 pm, we’ll hold our west coast swing contest in the main ballroom. Worlds is a World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) member event which means any points earned at Worlds counts toward graduation within the WSDC. You may sign up to participate in advance or when you arrive at Worlds. You don’t have to be a member of WSDC to participate. Registration will close about two hours before the contest start time.
