The Country Dance World Championships is the largest and most celebrated country dance convention in the World. The event is owned and operated by the United Country Western Dance Council® (the UCWDC®) which is an international, non-profit organization formed in 1989 to “promote, protect, and advance country western dancing as an art form and a worldwide competitive sport”. The UCWDC® operates as the sanctioning body for approximately 50 independent, associate member dance conventions held in numerous countries. Country dance competitors seeking to compete at Worlds must first qualify at the regional event level.

To promote fairness and consistency among the various dance contests, the UCWDC® maintains rules and regulations that are updated to reflect the latest trends in the dance-sport. The UCWDC® also maintains a judge certification program to ensure its judges are properly trained and tested prior to working at sanctioned events.

The UCWDC® believes in promoting country dancing as a fun, healthful and wholesome activity for all ages. Country dancing promotes mental and physical agility, general physical fitness, and increased interaction among people of diverse age groups, nationalities and socio-economic backgrounds. The organization strives to value camaraderie, family interaction, integrity, acceptance, and fun.
